RING OF RED
OCTOBER 2024
The Manchester Ring of Red is a annual ride where bikers circle the M60 wearing red, forming a visible show of APPRECIATION for those who have served in the armed forces.
Despite the cold and wet conditions, the turnout was huge—a clear reminder of the strength of the biker community and the deep respect they hold.
That sense of unity and support is something I’ve seen consistently while photographing bikers.

After years of protests and political unrest, I’d mostly seen British flags used in tense or confrontational Protests.
it was refreshing to see national pride expressed through something so respectful and community-driven.

I didn’t speak to many people that day — but I didn’t need to.
Everyone was friendly, easy to be around, and carried a quiet sense of pride and respect.

Patches tell a story
They tell you where someone’s been, what they stand for, or what makes them laugh.
Some reflect clubs or causes. Others are loud, personal — even designed to provoke.
Either way, they’re a big part of biker identity: collected, stitched, and worn.

The violent murder of Lee Rigby still echoes through today.

Community
On this day, bikers did what they do best — came together for a cause and showed the sense of community they’re known for.

We were ready to go — then came the sound I’ve grown used to: engines firing one after another, each burst adding to the chaotic, heart-thumping roar.

It was moments like seeing people waving from motorway bridges or a rider blasting AC/DC’s Highway to Hell as they passed made it an experience I won’t forget.
It was loud, cold, and chaotic—but being part of it felt right.
